How My Anxious Dog Went From Uncontrollable To Being A Stable & Happy Pup…
I was at the end of my rope and it was the biggest turnaround for my anxious and uncontrollable dog, for myself, and for my whole family.
Written by Chloe Schwartz
I used to be one of those people.
Shaking my head and saying “my dog wouldn’t do that…”
Afterall, our first dog was a really well-behaved one.
After he passed, we decided to adopt a rescue dog, called Duke.
We thought to ourselves, “this can’t be that different from our first dog.”
Boy, were we wrong. Duke was rescued from an abusive home, and from the day we took him home - he showed all types of anxiety and destructive behaviors.
He would bark and whine when left alone, destroy our furniture, and was often restless in the night.
I remember this one instance so clearly, we brought him to play at a dog run and he started barking incessantly at other male dog owners.
Other dog owners began staring at us. I could feel the weight of their judgment.
I tried to snap him out of it. Tugging on his leash hard…
But it’s almost like all his behavior training we spent hours on disappeared, and nothing was going in his anxious brain.
I had no option but to drag him toward the exit, while people made way for the world’s worst dog parent and her little monster.
I tried to ignore the head shakes…
“If they are loved and well-trained,” I heard one woman say, “they don’t act like this.”
My head was burning and my heart was racing. By the time we made it to the car, hot tears were running down my face.
Meanwhile, my anxious, defiant, uncontrollable dog kept whining and pacing around the passenger seat.
What else can I do? I’ve sacrificed so much for Duke, why is he still like this? Maybe I should just return him to the shelter…
My anxious dog was out of control, and my whole family was miserable
Duke's anxiety wasn't just affecting him; it was taking a toll on our entire household.
We couldn't leave him alone without coming home to a mess, and the constant barking was driving us and our neighbors crazy.
We started avoiding social situations because we never knew how Duke would react, and we couldn’t invite friends over because he would constantly bark at any man that walked through the door, likely because of the past trauma he endured.
He was the sweetest dog when he was calm, but those moments were rare. Most of the time, he was on edge. It was exhausting, both for him and for us.
We tried everything & even some of these popular ‘anxiety treatments’
Positive reinforcement, crate training, special diets, calming treats, and even anxiety prescriptions.
We went through countless trainers, each one promising they could help Duke, but we would make some progress, but the moment his anxiety hits - everything he learnt flew out the window.
I was starting to lose hope. I wanted to help Duke so badly, but it felt like I was failing him.
And what about him? This constant anxiety was taking a huge toll on him, he started to lose weight, shed fur, and was often restless from the lack of sleep.
How would he grow up like this? Would he ever feel safe and happy?
It got to the point where I started considering returning him to the shelter. The guilt of even thinking about it was overwhelming, but I didn't know what else to do.
Our home, once filled with joy and laughter, was now tense and stressed, and I felt like I was drowning in helplessness.
We were only a couple of weeks away from putting him on a stronger list of anxiety prescriptions.
And then something happened.
The unlikeliest bit of help from an unexpected corner
One evening, after another exhausting day with Duke, I was mindlessly scrolling through my social media feed when I came across an article from my high school friend.
He had always been the smartest guy in the room, and he went on to become a veterinarian, graduating from Harvard University with honors.
In his article, he talked about his latest research around the brain, anxiety and something called the endocannabinoid system—a term I had never heard before.
I was intrigued, mostly because I was desperate for any new information that might help Duke’s anxiety.
A new theory of managing anxiety issues in dogs?
He explained how every dog has an ‘anxiety circuit’ in their brains, and the more anxious experiences they go through - the stronger this circuit becomes.
Resulting in dogs defaulting to anxious behavior over every little trigger.
The way to help dogs would be through the activation of this hidden system that exists in all mammals - the endocannabinoid system (ECS).
The ECS plays a crucial role in regulating various physiological and cognitive processes, including mood, stress, and anxiety.
Research and studies have shown only one natural compound in the world can help to activate and regulate the ECS.
All the studies point to a very specific Full-Spectrum CBD (cannabidiol) to support this system and help manage anxiety, not just in humans, but in animals as well.
My heart skipped a beat. Could this be the answer I had been searching for? I kept reading, my curiosity piqued.
Think of the endocannabinoid system like a balancing mechanism within the body, helping to maintain equilibrium in the face of stress.
It does so by producing 'endocannabinoids' to counter the stress hormones.
When the system is out of balance, our dogs don’t have the ability to manage their heightened anxiety, restlessness, and other behavioral issues—which is exactly what Duke was struggling with.
The idea of using something natural to help Duke felt right.
We had already tried so many conventional methods without success, and the thought of resorting to more medication made me uneasy, as I was well-aware of the long-term side effects of reliance on prescriptions…
But this... this was different. It was backed by science, and it was natural.
The article even included testimonials and case studies from pet owners who had used CBD Full-Spectrum to help their anxious dogs.
The stories were eerily similar to mine—dogs who were once too anxious to function were now calm, happy, and finally able to enjoy life.
Not only that, these anxious dogs suddenly became a whole lot more trainable.
He talked about how this was very effective in bringing down the anxiety baseline, which sped up any form of training and conditioning process.
I was still skeptical, of course. But what did I have to lose?
Admittedly, at first - I ignored my Doctor-Friend’s recommendations - one most prominently including a product his veterinarian colleague from Cambridge University created.
It was only weeks later, after I came across a new study about the real cause of anxiety in dogs, that I finally tried his recommendation. I wish I hadn’t been so stubborn for so long.
The easiest health routine for Duke erased his anxiety
I’ll tell you all about the study that opened my eyes in just a second. But first, let me give you a full breakdown of my experience with this veterinarian recommended brand.
I ordered CBD Happy-Furever™ Oil created by Dr. Kathryn Dench, a leading holistic Cambridge Veterinarian, and the Chief Scientific Advisor of Paw Origins.
I’ve never heard of them before - they aren’t a big name yet, they are not available on Amazon due to Amazon’s platform restrictions, and they are more of a boutique-artisan brand for dogs supplements.
I ordered one test bottle, it arrived very quickly since it’s an American company and ships from the US.
I opened the bottle up as soon as it arrived. It was promising. The oil smelled great, it had a natural bacon flavor that Duke loves. It almost looked like liquid gold.
Then came time for the first test.
I mixed the oil into Duke’s dinner, and also applied it on his gums that very night.
Duke is very picky but with Happy-Furever™, he had no problems. Applying it on his gum for maximum effectiveness was easy because he loved the taste.
That very night he slept like a puppy, he settled down very quickly and slept all the way through to the morning!
We were shocked.
We would apply the oil on his gums every morning and evening, and he became so much calmer, more responsive and even happier.
The difference was so noticeable that my trainer even asked what I did.
After that first month, you can bet I stocked up on Happy-Furever™ Oil.
But I was still curious - how could something as simple as CBD Oil make such a dramatic difference?
So I did some digging to understand why Happy-Furever™ was working so well. Here’s what I found…
Why I failed to fix the issue all the times before
Despite being a well-documented and medically recognized system discovered by an award-winning scientist Dr. Raphael Mechoulam in the 1960s, the endocannabinoid system (ECS) has been largely overlooked by modern medicine and conventional treatments.
It also explained why I was never able to hit on this solution before, despite trying almost everything from behavioral training to specialized diets…
That’s because all of these anxiety treatments and solutions focus on masking symptoms rather than tackling the root cause of the ECS.
Consider some of the most popular anxiety medications we tried—they acted more like immobilizers, creating the illusion of calm.
In reality, your dog’s body is paralyzed and not functioning normally, essentially turning them into zombies. This often leads to 'rebound anxiety,' where the anxiety returns even worse once the medication wears off.
But with this specific full-spectrum CBD, we found an answer.
In fact, in numerous clinical trials and studies published in respected veterinary journals, scientists have consistently found CBD Oil effective in alleviating separation anxiety, noise phobia, and other anxiety disorders.
What’s even better is - researchers from Cornell University also found that CBD also provided a wide range of other health benefits like:
Helping reduce pain for dogs with osteoarthritis or joint-problems
Helping dogs with seizures
Helping dogs with allergies,
And even helping manage pain for dogs going through chemotherapy due to cancer.
Another study published in the Journal Frontiers in Veterinary Science found that CBD Oil was as effective as the prescription medication Rimadyl at reducing pain in dogs with arthritis. But the difference?
No negative side effects as compared to synthetic drugs.
"Dogs with an Imbalanced ECS are more likely to develop chronic anxiety & other health issues…
It's also a matter of addressing the right systems in the body. The ECS works in tandem with other systems, and if it's out of balance, no amount of training or special diets will fix the problem.
There are thousands of reasons to give your dog Happy-Furever™.
Even if Duke had zero anxiety, I would still give him Happy-Furever™. In fact, I’ve started giving it to my friend’s dogs as well.
Because there are a thousand and one things in the body that need the ECS to function correctly.
One of my friend's dogs suffers from some minor anxiety because of the inflammation in the joints as a senior dog. Nothing major, but it was clear she was suffering. And Happy-Furever™ made all the difference for her.
The Fact Is—Anxiety, Restlessness, Health Issues—All of These Can Be Alleviated by Supporting the ECS
I think in Duke’s case, an imbalance in his ECS was probably causing his anxiety to spiral out of control.
The issue is this:
In today's world, it’s nearly impossible for dogs to get everything they need to maintain a balanced ECS from their regular diet alone. And even if I fed Duke nothing but the best food, it wouldn’t work because they don’t interact with the ECS.
That's why I stick with Happy-Furever™ and not other brands. The company uses only the best ingredients, at scientifically-backed doses, and based on what I’ve experienced, I believe them.
Plus, they are 30-50% more affordable than similar solutions that don’t even have the same potency of 1,000mg of CBD and 120 servings.
Unlike other brands, they go above and beyond to use a highly effective carrier oil like MCT that increases the bioavailability of the CBD compounds, while also providing health benefits like increased energy, mobility, digestion and coat health.
Their oil is also free of contaminants, artificial additives, and is made using a high-quality CO2 Extraction Process. I was able to also verify this with their 3rd Party Lab Test Certificate of Analysis.
Do I sound like a big raving fan? That’s because I am!
These things have literally transformed our household in so many beneficial ways. And even so, the price is so affordable, particularly when you compare it to alternatives we were considering. Which brings me to my final point.
Finally a calm, happy, healthy dog I can enjoy life with
Look, Duke hasn't turned into a perfect dog. Nor do I expect or want that.
I know dogs get anxious, excited, tired, bored, and that they sometimes act out.
I'm also not saying every dog can be helped just with Happy-Furever™. But it's certainly worth a try before reaching for much more serious (and unnatural) options.
Because once you notice the improvements, and how it has reduced their anxiety baseline. When you notice how much easier it is to train them out of their bad habits - you will be eternally grateful for having stumbled upon this solution.
I know every dog is different, but having Happy-Furever™ in our everyday routine has been so rewarding. Our whole family loves the peace it has brought to our home.
I tell everyone about this product and joke that I would literally be their "spokesperson" if I could, because I love it so much.
25% OFF For The Moment
I just found out that Dr. Dench decided to run a special promotion for our readers where they are offering up to 25% off the regular price for their formulation. I’m definitely going to jump on this opportunity & stock up, especially since Duke responds so well to it.
I realize now how hard it must have been for Duke to feel so out of control, to know he was acting out, and still not able to control himself.
For any dog showing similar problem behaviors, an imbalance in the ECS might be at the root of it. And that’s why I recommend Happy-Furever™ to all dog parents - the sooner you check them out, the better.

Over the recent two decades of working as a vet, I’ve seen an alarming trend of anxious dogs…
It’s an often misunderstood condition that can lead to irreversible health problems.
It didn’t help that vets were dishing out anxiety meds like candy at a candy store.
Turning healthy dogs into zombies.
I decided something HAD to change.
This journey allowed me to help many dog parents, just like this story of Chloe & Duke.
Join me on this mission to transform anxious dogs into happy pups!
