"This Problem Becomes Fatal Within Hours!"
GDV - Gastric Dilation Volvulus, also known as "Bloat" is serious and potentially life-threatening condition in which the stomach fills with gas and twists on itself, cutting off blood supply to the stomach and other organs...
Imagine going out for a couple of hours, and coming back to a lifeless body of your beloved pup...
This condition is serious, and dog owners MUST be equipped with the knowledge to spot the problem before it becomes fatal.
Symptoms of GDV can include restlessness, pacing, panting, drooling, a distended belly, and a rapid heartbeat.
Certain breeds (especially larger ones) such as Great Danes, Weimaraners, Saint Bernards, and German Shepherds are prone to develop GDV.
1. Feeding smaller, more frequent meals instead of one large meal per day.
2. Avoiding strenuous exercise before and after meals.
3. Feeding your dog from a raised feeding station.
4. Not allowing your dog to drink large amounts of water immediately after eating.
5. Avoiding stressful situations and environments that can cause anxiety in dogs.
6. Not allowing your dog to eat too fast, you can use a slow feeder bowl to help with that.
7. Not allowing your dog to gulp air while eating, you can use a special food bowl that makes your dog work for his food, or using a puzzle feeder.
8. Avoiding dietary changes and abrupt food changes.
9. Keeping an eye on your dog's weight and overall health, if your dog is overweight it increases the risk of GDV.
(Quick tip: using elevated dog bowls and slow-feed dog bowls would help prevent bloat)
A slow-feed dog bowl could slow down your dog and prevent them from gulping down their food.
An elevated food bowl helps with posture!
