Dogs with floppy ears are more prone to ear infections because air cannot circulate as easily, trapping in moisture and bacteria.
Here are some symptoms to look out for:
1. Keep them clean & check them frequently - gently wipe the inside of your dog's ears with a cotton ball or soft cloth moistened with a solution specifically made for cleaning dog's ears (NEVER use solutions made for humans).
2. Dry your dog's ears after swimming or bathing - this is an often forgotten step. Make sure you dry them thoroughly to prevent moisture from building up.
3. Avoid using cotton swabs - NEVER use cotton swabs or any other objects into your dog's ears as it can cause damage to the ear canal.
4. Grooming - regularly groom your dog's ears and keep them trimmed to prevent hair from blocking their ear canal.
5. Consult with your vet - if your dog has a history of ear infections or other ear problems, it's always important you talk to your vet about what you can do to prevent them.
